M1928 HAVERSACK

Field pack used by the US Army infantry enlisted man. It has eyelets on the side for attaching the Springfield or Garand bayonet, and a canvas tab with eyelets on the front for attaching an entrenching tool cover M-1910 or M-43 shovel cover. A pouch for the "meat can" (mess kit pan and plate) is attached to the front, and contains three small internal canvas pouches for the mess knife, fork, and spoon. Straps of the M-1928 haversack have snap hooks for attaching to the pistol belt M-1936 or cartridge belt M-1923. A triangular pack extender (Carrier Pack, M-1928 present here) could be attached to the haversack to expand its capacity so that a shelter half and a wool blanket could be added. The U.S. stamp is on the front flap and the manufacturer's name and date on the back.
