WINTER COMBAT JACKET (TANKER JACKET)

The winter combat jacket is part of the winter combat uniform that included bib front overalls and a brimless skull cap with neck guard. All pieces were made of khaki or very light green medium weight cotton twill and lined with melton wool fabric of similar weight and color to that used in the overcoat. Photographic evidence shows this uniform was in use by both tank crew and infantrymen. The jacket is waist length with gussets at the shoulders for freedom of movement and a zipper closure down the front. It has wool knit cuffs and waistband to keep out the wind. The knitting is browner than the fabric body of the jacket. It has two inside hung slash pockets, one over each hip. A white cloth quartermaster tag is sewn inside the right pocket.

Original jackets in well worn frayed condition are barely obtainable in the $150.00
range and it is not recommended that you buy an original since there is an excellent reproduction jackets available.
